The Foundation for organic farming BIOSELENA – jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Bulgarian Organic Products Association and Agro TV – organize an international conference on the achievements and challenges the Bulgarian organic sector is facing: 20 February (Thursday) in Plovdiv, south Bulgaria, at AGRA 2020, the International Agricultural Exhibition.
This 6th edition of the conference is organized with the exclusive support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria.
2019 has been an intensive year for the organic sector in Bulgaria: it started with street protests, flowed by replacements in the Agriculture Ministry, legislative amendments and announcement of National Action Plan for the Organic Farming until 2027, and audit from the European Commission. After several years without support for the organic agriculture, 2020 is expected to open a new phase for supporting organic producers, but with additional conditions and limitations. Meanwhile, the European Commission adopted new regulations for organic farming that will enter into force on 1 January 2021. A team of researchers – jointly with business and EC funding – is seeking for solution of “controversial” practices and investments in the organic production.
The Conference will discuss legislative developments and new rules for supporting Bulgarian bio producers, as well as the latest results from scientific tests in organic farms. Success stories of Bulgarian bio brands will be in the focus of the discussions.
The Project “SAP: for the benefit of all of us” implemented by Agro TV in partnership with www.agro.bg and AgroCompass news magazine with EC support will be presented at the Conference. Providing information and discussing the support for the organic farmers under the CAP, best practices, new products and trade opportunities are also in the agenda of the Conference.
The Netherlands – a country with a leading role in the agri innovations, including organic farming, is a special guest at the Conference. The Dutch bio producers are the only ones in the EU who don’t receive subsidies per land for organic production. How did they achieve it? You’ll hear the story from our exclusive speakers.
You can also enjoy Bulgarian organic food products during the lunch break.
The Conference aims at farmers, producers and dealers of organic food, specialists, scientists and providers of equipment, machinery, seeds, finances and support, as well as experts from state institutions and municipalities.
